Yes. TEC AUTO is an independent BMW workshop at Carros Centre, Woodlands. We service and repair the full BMW range using BMW ISTA diagnostics — the same platform the main dealer uses.

No. Under Singapore's Competition Act and the EU Block Exemption which BMW applies globally, your warranty stays valid as long as the workshop uses matching-quality parts and follows the BMW service schedule. We do both and give you the paperwork.

Most BMWs do well on a 10,000 to 12,000 km oil service interval or 12 months — whichever comes first. The car's iDrive shows you exactly what's due via the Condition Based Service menu. In Singapore's heat and stop-and-go traffic, sticking closer to the 10,000 km mark is sensible.

It depends on the engine. BMW specifies LL-01, LL-04, LL-12 FE, LL-14 FE, or LL-17 FE+ depending on year and engine code. For most petrol BMWs from 2015 onwards, LL-04 or LL-17 FE+ in 0W-30 or 5W-30 is correct. We check the spec sticker under the bonnet before topping up.

ISTA is BMW official diagnostic and programming software. Without it, a workshop cannot read manufacturer-specific fault codes, reset CBS service counters properly, or perform module coding (like registering a new battery). Generic OBD2 scanners miss most BMW-specific issues.

The most frequent are oil filter housing gasket leaks on N20/N26 engines, electric water pump failures around 100,000 to 150,000 km on N20/N55/B58, charge pipe failures on N54 turbos, and front control arm bushing wear from heat and road conditions. Cabin filter clogging and AC mould are universal in Singapore humidity.

Every two years regardless of mileage. BMW brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point and softens pedal feel under heavy braking. Most owners forget this, then notice a spongy pedal — by then it is overdue.

Yes. BMWs use intelligent battery management — the alternator charges differently based on what type and capacity of battery is installed. If you swap a battery without registering it through the diagnostic system, the new battery will be over- or under-charged and die early. We register every battery we install.

Roughly every 60,000 km on direct-injection engines. Some owners stretch this to 80,000 km, but in Singapore stop-and-go traffic the carbon buildup tends to push you closer to 60,000 km for clean misfire-free idle.

It is the cabin air filter that cleans the air going into your AC. In Singapore humidity it gets disgusting fast — mould, particulates, dust. Change it every 12 months. While it is open, ask the workshop to spray AC evaporator cleaner — kills the mould smell.

A basic oil service is 1 to 2 hours. A major service with brake fluid, plugs, and microfilter takes 3 to 4 hours. We give you a realistic time estimate when you book — and if we find something extra during inspection, we call before doing it, not after.

For warranty work and known recall items, yes — the dealer can claim against BMW. For routine servicing and out-of-warranty repairs, an independent specialist with ISTA and proper experience does the same work for significantly less. Most BMW owners switch after their warranty ends.

All current and recent generations — F30, F31, G20, G22 3-Series; F10, G30 5-Series; F22, G42 2-Series; F32, G26 4-Series; F87 M2, F80 M3, F82 M4; X1 through X7; Z4. We also handle older E-chassis models like E46, E60, E90, E92.

Yes. We have worked on F87 M2, F80 M3, F82 M4, and several F90 M5s. M-specific items like the dual-clutch DCT service, carbon ceramic brake pad changes, and S55/S58 engine work are part of what we do.

BMW retired the old fixed-interval Inspection 1/2 system around 2008 in favour of Condition Based Service. On modern BMWs, the iDrive tracks each item separately — oil, brake fluid, microfilter, spark plugs — and shows them as they come due. The major service terminology now refers to a service where multiple CBS items are due together.

BMW-branded oil is made by suppliers like Castrol, Shell, or Pentosin. The branded BMW container costs more for identical fluid. As long as the oil meets the BMW specification for your engine (LL-04, LL-17 FE+, etc.), you can use the supplier product directly. We use OEM-spec Castrol Edge, Shell Helix Ultra, or BMW-branded depending on what your engine calls for.

Common symptoms are intermittent overheating warnings, coolant level dropping without visible leaks, the cooling fan running unusually loud, or a slight burning smell from the engine bay. The N20, N55, and B58 electric water pumps usually fail between 100,000 and 150,000 km. Catching it early is much cheaper than a full failure.

It is a textbook Singapore failure — heat cycles slowly destroy the seal between the oil filter housing and the engine block. You see oil dripping near the front of the engine, sometimes onto the exhaust (which you can smell at idle). The fix is straightforward but takes labour time. Common on N20, N26 4-cylinder engines from F30/F32 era.

Yes — properly through ISTA, not the iDrive button trick. The service indicator on iDrive can be cleared by holding the BC button, but that does not update BMW underlying service records. ISTA does it correctly so the next service mileage projection is accurate.

Yes. We do a full mechanical and diagnostic check for buyers considering a used BMW — common failure points for the model in question, fault code history via ISTA, fluid condition, suspension wear, tyre and brake life, and any visible accident repairs. Worth doing before committing to a five-figure purchase.
